ALERT: Weather Warning for South Africa (Satellite Image)

Have a look at the dimensions of the storm’s swathe heading towards Cape Town. That is a monster. Seems as though this is going to be a weekend dominated by the weather in a few parts of the world. In Cape Town and along the Coast huge waves are forecast. Usually huge swells are classified as 5 metres, the forecast this time is 7-10m. That’s a 3 storey building.

Weathersa: Extremely dangerous conditions for the development of runaway fires are expected over Limpopo, Gauteng, eastern part of North-West Province, northern Free State, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

Rugby : Weekend Preview

TriNations

TriNations

Australia have not won much in South Africa of late, but South Africa have not won much in the Tri-Nations this year.

The ‘third match’ in this Tri-Nations has been a tough one. The Springboks lost their third match, All Blacks lost their third and the Wallabies lost their third. This is not a third Tri-Nations match for the Springboks but it is their third successive match starting with one against the Pumas, a costly match for the winners as it ended tough man Bakkies Botha’s Tri-Nations. Third match suggests a Springbok defeat. The Springboks have had two matches while the Wallabies had two weeks off.

Home ground? It does not work miracles. The Springboks have not been good at home this year – not against the enfeebled Welsh, not against the dogged Italians, not against the enfeebled Pumas, and not against the All Blacks when they fell over their own feet, missing out on match-winning opportunities. All of that said, there is no reason on earth why the Springboks should not win. But home ground alone will not do it.

Prediction: It’s hard. Who knows what side is going to play and how. But looking at the situation as it has been one would suggest that Australia will win by more than 10.

With South Africa’s local provincial tournament taking a back behind the national team’s Tri-Nations endeavors for the last time, this weekend will host the second half of the round nine encounters.

Three of the “big five” provinces will making way for another heated top table battle.

The Sharks, currently in third position on 28 points, travel to Wellington to face the Cavaliers. Friday’s second encounter between the Blue Bulls and Western Province (WP) at Fort Loftus.

Prediction: A potentially bland game considering the wet conditions, but the Sharks should walk away win it fairly comfortable, by 10 or more points.
Prediction: Province will fight, but the Bulls are bounds ahead this season and will out-muscle their Cape opponents by 8 or more points.

Boks Woe….

South Africa have slipped to third place in the International Rugby Board (IRB) rankings after their fourth defeat in five Tri-Nations matches on Saturday when they lost 15-27 to Australia, which eliminated the World Cup champions from Tri-Nations title contention.

This is the Springboks’ lowest position since they took the No.1 slot after the World Cup.

The slide follows the Springboks’ third successive loss and their second on home soil for the first time in a Tri-Nations season.

Former Springboks assistant and Wallabies boss Eddie Jones has turned up the heat on beleaguered South African coach Peter de Villiers, describing his much-maligned new gameplan as “nonsense”.

Jones was a member of former Springbok coach Jake White’s staff when South Africa won the World Cup in France last year. His comments come amidst rumours of disunity and confusion among the South African players, and after De Villiers, the first black man to coach the Springboks, was booed loudly by Durban fans after Saturday’s 15-27 loss to Australia.

“The Springboks will get worse if they continue in this way,” Jones told English newspaper the Independent. “Mate, no one in world rugby is playing the way their coach is talking about, not successfully anyway.

“Everyone has discipline, policies and a procedure in their game. The way he is talking is nonsense. You can’t just play an expansive, wide game.

“This is still a very good squad of players. Most are even at their peak or approaching it. So there is plenty of talent but what they need is the organisation and discipline.

“The hard thing for Peter is that he has never coached professionally and this is one of the most difficult teams to coach.”

South Africa clash with Australia at Ellis Park in the second Test on Saturday and a loss there to the Wallabies for the first time in 45 years, would have De Villiers under enormous pressure.

The Bok coach have also threatened to “axe” senior members of the team in they don’t come to the party and it has become obvious they are not buying into his “expansive at whatever cost” game plan.

The Springboks were booed in Durban after the full-time whistle from the Absa Park crowd, who had no qualms in showing their displeasure at the quality of the Springbok performance.

The Springboks suffered from the same weakness at the breakdown as they did last week in Cape Town against the All Blacks, losing countless turnovers and failing to protect their own possession at the tackle.

Wallabies centre Timana Tahu has declared it ‘open season’ on the Springboks, as South Africa and Australia prepare for their Tri-Nations encounter in Johannesburg on Saturday & could fancy their chances against a Springboks outfit in disarray.

The criticism of Bok coach Peter de Villiers is showing no signs of abating

De Villiers has lost the plot. Maybe he should listen more to rugby chat shows, his assistant coaches and the players before he tries to change a gameplan the “bokke” played for the last 4 years. The ELV’s might have made the game a bit quicker, but you choose what you want to do when a short arm penalty is given to you. Our phase play is terrible; no cohesion, the ball is not protected, body positions are terrible. We had over 14 turnovers last week. We make twice as many tackles than our counterparts, no wonder our “legs are tired”

The following coaches believed in structured game plans and discipline:
kitch christie-  success rate over 90% including world cup title
nick mallet – success rate over 70% including tri-nations title
jake white -  success rate over 65% including world cup and tri-nations title
The following believed in free-styling self expression:
carel du plessis – success rate of 37%
harry viljoen – success rate of 53%, majority of games against “second tier” rugby playing nations
de villiers – current success rate of 55%
Do the math, Div, do the math.

De Villiers should by now realise that being an affirmative action appointment and being in an international environment were merit counts…..that he is just up to the task.  He should resign as the Springboks have become the laughing stock of world rugby!!

First of all,I find it to be a waste of time for very obvious reasons. Our rugby team has one problem and one problem only – Lack of confidence brought about by the following:
1. A coach with no top level experience at all.
2. A coach with a game plan that does not work
3. A coach who changes world cup champions into chimpions within a few short months.
4. A coach with more excuses than the Oxford dictionary.
5. A coach that cannot stand up to the political rugby guru.
6. A coach that replaces Schalk Burger with Political Watson every game.
7. A coach that believes there is a very small difference between winning and losing.
8. A coach who will not take advice from those who know.
9. A coach so stubborn, even when the scoreboard speaks will not entertain change.
10.A coach who says we (The rugby paying public) are too impatient.
11.A coach who managed to get the Rugby world not to fear the Springbok ever again.

White took us from the depths of despair to the pinnacle.   At the end of the first game under his coaching in which the Boks played against New Zealand, in New Zealand, as the game ended ex-All Black commentator, Murray Mexted enthusiastically exclaimed, “The Boks are back!” Yes, and under White they certainly were.

But I fear the issue revolving sport in SA is far greater than a poor coaching structure from PDV.  The Proteas have lost their final test and first ODI, we’ve won a big fat zero gold medals at the olympics,  despite a few youngsters coming through we’ve also had a fairly disappointing year in the golfing world too, no tennis stars, no nothing?  Two main reasons for this, I think, is firstly (the excuse):  We’ve seen it all before, the Boks after their ‘95 success and the Poms after the ‘03 World Cup success, I’m sure there’s many more examples, but the time after a World Cup is one of new plans, new ideas and conventionally a period of transition.

We are lightyears behind Australia, England and the States on sports development.  What we achieved last year in the World Cup took four years of hard work and planning, we can’t just pitch up and be the best there is, no one can, not even the All Blacks.

The South African public’s patience with Springbok coach Peter de Villiers is wearing thin.

In the words of the legendary Formula One commentator Murray Walker, it was “disaster, disaster, disaster”

It is clear that the Bok squad is not a happy camp. How could they be? The so-called ‘expansive game plan’ that Peter de Villiers has in mind is non-existent – to run the ball you need to secure possession – something the Boks have forgotten to do. The beleaguered coach seems adamant that the Boks can succeed under his approach. But how long will the public, and more importantly, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) tolerate such performances? The Durban faithful gave their answer in no uncertain terms.

Am I being to harsh? Maybe I am, but the performances of the Boks over the last three Tri-Nations games has been nothing short of diabolical. The question is can they motivate themselves enough to beat the Wallabies on Saturday? They will need more than motivation to beat a well drilled Australian outfit at Ellis Park, sorry Coca-Cola Park – a venue that the Boks have done well at. Another loss and Peter de Villiers will be fighting to keep his head above water.

I will be wearing my bok jersey, but in my heart I will be hoping Australia win by record margins.
I feel like never support the Springboks again, I love the players and they are surely some of the very best in the world, but I cannot support SARugby as an organisation any longer.  I have had enough of them sabotaging my favorite past time and toying with loyal supporters.  SARUGBY you are a joke.

On a more positive note, the final showdown between Australia and the All Blacks in Brisbane on September 13 is set to be a winner takes all. Regardless of what happens on Saturday in Johannesburg, the winner of that game in Brisbane will be crowned Tri-Nations champions. If Australia lose they will be a single point behind the All Blacks as they head home. A bonus point victory will put them four points clear of Richie McCaw’s chargers. As the points table stands at present, the All Blacks have a points difference of 42 , whilst the Aussies are on five. If the Aussies bag five points on Saturday, and the All Blacks get four in Brisbane and deny the Wallabies a point, the two teams will be level on 18 points. But the All Blacks will more than likely have the superior points difference and claim the title. Either way you look at it, it’s a Final and something to look forward to.

August 27 2008 two moons and december 21 2012 Apocalypse????

And to second well – yes/no?. The year 2012 is rumored to be the end of the world. But do not worry. Do not be scared. It is a false rumor. I assure you that the world will not end on 2012 December 21 but it will end one day. Remember that if there is a beginning, there is an end.

I would like to share with you briefly about the Mayan calendar and Nostradamus’ prediction of the end of the world. I also would like to share with you what certainly will happen very soon as told to us by the Holy Spirit. After this certain event happened, there will be a spiritual awakening of people and earth’s inhabitants will experience peace for a long time.

Make Word 2007 always save in 2003 format

After a dozen times of accidentally sending a Word 2007 document to co-workers still stuck on Office 2003, I’ve decided to make Word save in the Word 2003 format by default. (you can do the same thing in Excel)

To change this setting, click on the Office Button in the upper left hand corner.

image

Now click the Word Options button in the menu.

image

Click on the Save tab, and then change the drop-down menu for “Save files in this format” to be “Word 97-2003 Document”.

Now you won’t send the wrong format by accident anymore.

Create Administrator Mode Shortcuts Without UAC Prompts in Windows Vista

One of the most talked about annoyances in Windows Vista are the UAC prompts that constantly pop up when you are trying to make system changes. It’s especially irritating when you often need to run a particular tool that requires administrator mode in order to run. Thankfully there’s a simple hack that you can do to create an administrator mode shortcut that doesn’t prompt for UAC.

This works by setting up a scheduled task to run the application in Administrator mode, and then setting up a separate shortcut that tells the scheduled task to run. If that sounds difficult, it’s really not… just follow through the instructions below.

Rugby: NZ smash SA

A poor performance from the Springboks saw the All Blacks ensure their dominance.

Percy Montgomery became the first South African to make 100 Test appearances. There was no celebration for the veteran fullback in a game in which the All Blacks beat the Springboks 19-0.

Dan Carter uncharacteristically missed a host of penalty opportunities. While the Kiwis deserve the credit for their win , the Boks were shocking on a day when they were easily rattled by refereeing decisions and some shocking skills.

In the Tri-Nations the All Blacks are now on 14 points, after five games and with one game to go. Australia, with three Tri-Nations games left – two against the Boks and one against the All Blacks – are second on nine points. The Boks, who need a miracle to now win the Tri-Nations, are on five points with just two games left.

Olympic ceremony’s BSOD

The Beijing Olympics opening ceremony which featured 14,000 performers depicting 5000 years of Chinese history ended up by depicting a little piece of modern western culture: a Windows XP Blue Screen Of Death.

The BSOD screen was projected onto the roof of the National Stadium during the grand finale to the four-hour spectacular as veteran Chinese gymnast Li Ning, suspended 70 metres above the stadium floor, jogged towards the Olympic torch.
Bill Gates and his family attended several of the Olympic events, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet if he attended this one.

Sarcastically enough, Lenovo chairman, Yang Yuanqing, was quoted saying that they used Windows XP instead Windows Vista because ” it’s (Windows Vista) not stable, it could have some problems”.

Traveling

Well today i went into the rural Eastern Cape for work. With bulk water supply we have optained a new contract and had to do a feasibility study. Only 400km traveled, but dodging potholes, cows and goats, thank goodness i back in the city :P

Bit of history -

FORT BEAUFORT
Lies in the Kat River Valley surrounded by magnificent mountains…
After the fifth frontier war between the Xhosa and the white settlers, in which the Xhosa were driven back across the Keiskamma River, the Cape Government decided to maintain the whole area between the Keiskamma and Great Fish Rivers as a buffer zone. Forts were built to maintain the peace and it was in this fashion that Fort Beaufort was built.
It was in the circular architectural style of a Martello Tower, commonly used in coastal defence of England and France. Fort Beaufort was the most effective of these forts as it was positioned between the banks of the Keiskamma and Great Fish Rivers in an extremely defensible position. During the eighth Frontier War it withstood an offensive by a full Xhosa army.
ALICE
Is named after Princess Alice, daughter of the British Queen Victoria. Many of the current political leaders in South Africa were educated at the University of Fort Hare, also the alma mater of former President Nelson Mandela. The university is also the repository of the archives of the African National Congress documents and houses one of the most significant collections of African art.

Rugby: Weekend Roundup

Currie Cup
Cheetahs showed superior form in finishing off neighbours Griquas and cement their place in the top two on the Absa Currie Cup standings with convincing 22-3 win in Bloemfontein.

The Sharks moved to the top of the Absa Currie Cup standings with a 32-10 win over  Western Province.

Boland Cavaliers scored a nail-biting 31-29 win over the Falcons at Boland Stadium on Friday, after trailing 7-19 at halve time.

The Lions have hit some impressive mid-season form. An impressive 30-27 bonus-point win over the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Friday helped move them from fifth to third on the standings. Outscoring the Bulls by four tries to three – two of those coming from Man-of-the-match Willie Wepene.

The Springboks rattled up 9 tries against the Pumas. A sloppy start to the match that allowed the visitors to take a 9-0 lead early in the match.
The Boks were guilty of poor handling and ill-judged passes in contact.  The Springboks finally woke from their  in the 31st minute scoring a well finished off try. Fianly winning the match 63 – 9

Pumas take-on the Springboks

The Bok team to face Argentina in a one-off test on Saturday in Johannesburg.

Nelson Mandela will be back at the same ground on Saturday as when he was wearing a Springbok jersey with No.6 on the back at the Rugby World Cup 1995 Final while holding the World Cup and gazing at Francois Pienaar

Prediction: South Africa by more than 15.

Currie Cup – Week 8 preview

Due to the Bok test against Argentina on Saturday, all round 8 Currie Cup games will be played on Friday evening.

All eyes will no doubt be on the Springbok Test in Johannesburg on Saturday for the Mandela Tribute Test against Argentina. Though not without the South African faithful having had a wholesome starter’s portion of quality local rugby, with all four games scheduled for kick-off on Friday.

The first of these sees the Cavaliers take on the Falcons in Boland late Friday afternoon.
Prediction: Boland to win by 8 points.

Next up is the Cheetahs taking on the Griquas in Bloemfontein – with the Griquas coming off a heavy home defeat to the Sharks a week ago.
Prediction: Cheetahs to win by 18 points.

The Blue Bulls meet the Lions at Fort Loftus in the first of the weekend’s two big five clashes.
Prediction: Blue Bulls to win by 6 points.

The second of the big five match sees the Sharks travel to Cape Town against a struggling Western Province.
Prediction: Sharks to pull it off by 8 points against my heart shouting for WP

Movie – you don’t mess with the Zohan

In You Don’t Mess With the Zohan,  Adam Sandler stars as Zohan, an Israeli commando who fakes his own death in order to pursue his dream of becoming a hairstylist in New York.

It was abit far fetched but in the end still a Adam Sandler movie that has laughs till the end! The film has alot of  brief appearances from a handful of celebrities, including Chris Rock, Dave Matthews,  John McEnroe & Mariah Carey.

It goes on too long, but I enjoyed much of the crazy, off-the-wall nature of Adam Sandler.

Batman – The Dark Night

batmanThe Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale. Bale once again embodies the man behind the mask. The Dark Knight takes Batman across the world in his quest to fight a growing criminal threat. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman had been making headway against local crime until a rising criminal mastermind, known as The Joker (Heath Ledger), unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City. To stop this devious new menace – Batman’s most personal and vicious enemy yet – he will have to use every high-tech weapon in his arsenal and confront everything in which he believes.

Loved this! I’ll warn you in advance that it’s long. But so worth it! Even with Heath’s untimely death :( , I think, the best Batman of the series! It was a brilliant performance from Heath and I wish Morgan had more of a role… Christian Bale was his usual self, but I still don’t get how he can sound so different when he’s Batman and when he’s not. Oh, and again, you have to get passed his sssslurring. Definitely a must watch. I’d see it again –  Brilliant
