Actually, who are you not to be?

So i was laying in bed this morning and got a climse of this poem in a movie.
Really good poem!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our Light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves — Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are we not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people do not feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the Glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone.

And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others.

Credit Crunch Tips

DON’T waste money on expensive ipods. Simply think of your favorite tune
and hum it. If you want to “switch tracks”, simply think of another song you
like and hum that instead.

DON’T waste money on expensive paper shredders to avoid having your identity
stolen. Simply place a few dog turds in the bin bags along with your old
bank statements.

SAVE money on expensive personalized car number plates by changing your name
to match your existing plate, e.g. Ms. KVL 741GP,

DON’T waste money buying expensive binoculars; simply stand closer to the
object you wish to view.

AN empty aluminum cigar tube filled with angry wasps makes an inexpensive
vibrator.

SAVE electricity by turning off all the lights in your house and walking
around wearing a miner’s hat.

HOUSEWIVES, the best way to get two bottles of washing-up liquid for the
price of one is by putting one in your shopping trolley and the other in
your coat pocket.

OLD telephone directories make ideal personal address books, simply cross
out the names and address of people you don’t know.

SAVE on booze by drinking cold tea instead of sherry. The next morning you
can create the effects of a hangover by drinking a thimble-full of washing
up liquid and banging your head repeatedly on the wall.

SAVE a fortune on laundry bills. Give dirty shirts to the hospice shop, they
will wash and iron them and you can buy them back for fifty cents.

CAN’T afford contact lenses? Simply cut out small circles of cling film and
press them into your eyes.

MAKE your own inexpensive mints by leaving blobs of toothpaste to dry on a
window sill. Use striped toothpaste to make humbugs.

SHOPPERS, when buying oranges, get more for your money by peeling them
before taking them to the counter to be weighed.

SA U19 vs Aus U19 – season 12

Match Report
By Weeksy
Here is the match report for the South Africa vs Australia game, sorry its a bit late. Hope ya like it.

Game 2 saw our under 19 boys travel to the land down under of Australia, with the game being played at Adelaide.

Rob Ward and Derek “Mysterious” Groenink walked out to toss the coin. Ward won the toss and sent South Africa into bat on an uneven pitch.
Groenink (55 of 71) and Tony Mullen (44 of 45) led the way brilliantly with a great opening partnership of 101, unfortunately, Jimmy ‘The Pain’ Hurter
could not add a single run to the partnership with Groenink as he was dismissed for a duck, then Groneink was out as well.

Loosing three quick wickets like that was not a good sign for the boys, they looked to Doug “The Giant” Kempen and Ray “maddog” Myall to steady the ship,
unfortunately Myall couldn’t do the job only making 4. With the team total now on 124/4 things didn’t look to good.
Kempen was now joined at the crease with Miles “North” Weston, these boys then went on to play brilliantly and stand up for their country when they needed to most.
Kempen ended up on 77 not out from 96 deliveries with Weston facing 74 balls for his not out performance of 77.
The end of 50 overs saw the score at 265/4, mainly thanks to the great opening partnership of Mullen and Groenink, then another partnership followed with Kempen and Weston putting on 141 together.

Now it was time for the South Africa boys to head out and defend their total of 265. The boys were on a high after they got a wicket with the first delivery of the day thanks to Pete Mbata bowling great lines and getting Frank Chambers to hit a catch straight to Shaun Mbatha.
Mbata then followed on to take the next to wickets to end with figures of 3/49 with 1 maiden of his 10 overs. Frank Dhanji was the star batter for Australia making 103.
Kris Nordien was another bowler who chipped in claiming 2 wickets off his 10 overs for 45 runs. Vic Mosheua also bowled good lines, but was unlucky to claim a wicket finishing up with figures off 10 overs 1 maiden for 41 runs.

Australia being at 3 fa 180 were looking alright, but some quick wickets by Nordien brought them back to be 6 fa 213.
The game was coming down to the wire, the crowd started to chew on their fingernails with 31 needed off the last 3 overs. You must say it was looking slightly in favour of SA.
Unfortunatley they got 17 of the 48th over. With Australia only needed 14 off 2 now and the ball was tossed to Phillip ‘Dennis’ Norden to trundle his arm over for the last over of the day.
He bowled well, but with luck not on his side, Australia won with 1 ball remaining, unlucky for our boys, after putting up such a great effort with the bat and then following up to get some quick wickets with the ball.
Plenty of positive to come out of the game, batting partnerships, and some good bowling when wickets were needed.

we now look forward to the next match against Pakistan at home, good luck boys, you are starting to play well together now and a win is just around the corner.

Super 14 Week 7

This week has thrown a spanner in the works for my prediction with such difficult games again!
With a few upsets last week, can we expect more this week?

BLUES vs WARATAHS
First off is the Blues vs the Waratahs. Statistics show that the Waratahs will not win the game as they have not won in Auckland in 14 years. Also the Blues have won 9 out of the 13 clashes between these two teams. This fixture is crucial for both teams.

Blues by 3

HIGHLANDERS vs BULLS
This match will be the first Super14 match to played on a neutral venue (bring in bigger crowd). Last week a referee had the last say in making the Bulls play and win with 14 men on the field. They will continue their way of playing to keep their top spot on the table.

Bulls by 10

CRUSADERS vs STORMERS
The Crusaders are slowly getting back into form and with the Stormers first match on tour, this will be an epic clash! The Stormers ran circles around the Lions 2 weeks ago and would like to continue that trend. It promises to be an exciting and tight match, but the Stormers should feel that now is one of the best chances they will ever have to get one over the Crusaders in the Super 14.

Stormers by 5

REDS vs CHIEFS
A battle between the 2 most entertaining teams at the moment. The Reds beating the Sharks, and Chiefs, thumping the Blues, have really showed that they are still in the running for Semi spots.

Chiefs by 7

SHARKS vs BRUMBIES
After a shock loss to the Lions last week the Brumbies will be back with all guns blazing. With a great track record at home the Sharks will be the favorites for the clash.

Sharks by 12

LIONS vs HURRICANES
The Lions shocked the Brumbies last week with a hard fought win. The Lions will be looking at doing the same this week, but, the Hurricanes will want to bag a win before the Lions go on their tour.

Hurricanes by 3

Super 14: Week 6 results

The Bulls started their tour with a 9-14 win over the Hurricanes. Matt Goddard (i will do a post on the ELV’s) gave no fewer than five yellow cards and one red card to put the Bulls down to 14 men after flank Deon Stegmann was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
This win keeps the Bulls at top of the log.

The Sharks moved into second place with a 22-10 win over the Western Force. After last week’s loss to the Reds they bounced back and completed their most successful overseas tour ever. JP Pietersen got his fifth try in six matches to move to the top of the try-scoring standings. The defeat sees the Force slip to 11th place.

The Waratahs suffered a second consecutive loss when the Crusaders beat them 17-13. It is the Crusaders first win in five matches. The win sees the Crusaders jump from 12th to seventh place on the table.

The Chiefs stormed through the Blues with an emphatic 63-34 demolition. The Chiefs are becoming a great contender for a Semi-Final spot.

The Lions defeated the Brumbies 25-17 in a nail-biting clash after a huge loss to the Stormers a week earlier. The Lions thus move up to 13th place from….. 13th place.

The Cheetahs ended their tour with a 32-8 loss against the Highlanders.

Earth Hour – March 28

28 MARCH 2009

Earth Hour is sweeping the globe with 80+ countries and 1,800+ cities and towns signed up to switch off on March 28

ABOUT EARTH HOUR

Earth Hour 2009 is a global initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature which acts as a worldwide call to action to every individual, business and community to take a stand against Climate Change. To show your support, sign up now and commit to switching off your lights for one hour on Saturday, March 28th at 8:30pm. Originating in Sydney, Australia in 2007, the Earth Hour initiative proved more than worthwhile when it witnessed 2 million people coming together to switch off their lights for one hour for this vital cause.

Following on from this success, 2008 saw an estimated 50 million people taking part. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

This year, 2009, Earth Hour will see the lights go out on some of the most recognised attractions on the planet, including Cape Town’s Table Mountain, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Merlion in Singapore, Sydney Opera House, the iconic 6-star hotel, the Burj al Arab, in Dubai, Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the world’s tallest constructed building, the Taipei 101.

Earth Hour 2009 has one major aim: to unite the citizens of the world in the fight against climate change in order to convince governments and world leaders that our planet cannot wait any longer. There simply isn’t enough time, and therefore 2009 is a colossally important, if not the most critical year, to take action on climate change. 2009 is the year we decide the future of our planet.

Super 14 Week 6

HURRICANES vs BULLS
Unless the Bulls strike an early blow, they could be chasing the whole game, and in this event, you’d have to back the Hurricanes.  The Bulls are the only team that have not lost a match so far this year. That’s the positive for the Bulls. The negative is that they do not have a good record away from home. The best ever away tour for the Bulls was in 2007 ,they won the tournament that year, but they still lost to the Hurricanes.

Hurricanes by 7

HIGHLANDERS vs CHEETAHS
Dumb and Dumber.  Highlanders have never lost to the Cheetahs in the Super14 and the cheetahs have gotten progressively worse since captain Juan Smith bowed out with injury.  This is probably the Cheetahs’ best chance of picking up a win but the Highlanders will ultimately come away with a narrow victory

Highlanders by 5

CHIEFS vs BLUES
This one is a little difficult to predict as both sides are so unpredictable.  The Chiefs have looked the better of the two teams although the Super 14 log may dispute the point. Their are a few exciting battles that will happen on the field and that could possibly turn the match for the Chiefs.  Given the Blues history in Hamilton and overall we think the Blues will edge it.

Blues by 5

WARATAHS vs CRUSADERS
Last week was another difficult week for the Crusaders and I only got 0.5 points.  The Waratahs cost me poitns by loosing to the Brumbies. But I’m sticking with the Waratahs again due to the fact they’re at home and they’re hosting the struggeling Crusaders.  Its a rematch of last year’s Super 14 final but with a difference. No home advantage for the Crusaders, no Dan Carter and also no Richie McCaw.

Waratahs by 7

FORCE vs SHARKS
Matt Giteau is one of, if not the best number 10 in the world at the moment!  Francois Steyn moves in to wear the number 10 jersey where he will have to try contain Giteau. Force has a big problem and that is their playing record at home.  They have a real good odds for play off contenders if only they could win all their home games. Now is as good a time as any to start. The Sharks had been the best defensive unit in the competition. They’ll need to be sharp on this occasion, or they will throw the game away.

Force by 5

LIONS vs BRUMBIES
It’s not been a good week for the Lions. One of their coaches has been suspended, another coach is talking of resigning at the end of the season and they are coming off the back of a 56-18 thumping by the Stormers.  The Brumbies have stuttered throughout their campaign but they’ll be too good for the struggeling kittens.

Friday the 13th

friday-the-13th

Friday the 13th

So what is up with 2009?

We are three months into the year and already two Friday the 13th’s. Now i am not “that” superstitious, but so far on those two days i have had crap days!

There are three of these days in 2009
one in February
one in March and
one in November!

To work out which month will have a friday the 13, it will start off with Sunday the 1st, so then you will be able to tell if that month has a friday the 13th, and there is at least one Friday the 13th in every calendar year.

History/Information
Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of good or bad luck. In the Gregorian calender, this day occurs at least once, but at most three times a year.

One theory states that it is a modern amalgamation of two older superstitions: that 13 is an unlucky number and that  Friday is an unlucky day.

  • In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve signs of the zodia, twelve hours of the clock, twelve Apostles of Jesus, twelve gods of Olympus, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last supper or a Norse myth, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners.
  • Friday has been considered an unlucky day to undertake journeys or begin new projects. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s. It has also been suggested that Friday has been considered an unlucky day because, according to Christian scripture and tradition, Jesus was crusified on a Friday.
  • Eve tempted Adam with forbidden fruit on a Friday. The great flood began on a Friday. Judas, the 13th guest at the last supper, betrayed Jesus leading to his crucifixion on, yes, a Friday.
  • Friday, October 13, 1307 is the most well known Friday the 13th in history. On this date hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of Knights Templar, an order of warrior monks, were rounded up on the selfish and politically motivated orders of King Philip IV of France
  • Judas was the 13th guest at the last supper and that dinner party didn’t have the luckiest consequences.

Lock your doors and stay inside, the unluckiest of days is upon us, Friday the 13th.  But where does all this fear come from? There is no single event that one can point to and definitively say this is where it all started.

Natural events on Friday the 13th

Due to the large number of events that happen in the world, a similar list could be compiled for any combination of day of the month and day of the week. Events that have been notable for being linked to the concept of Friday the 13th include:

  • Hurricane Charley made landfall in south Florida on Friday, August 13, 2004.
  • The “Friday the 13th Storm” struck New York on Friday, October 13, 2006.
  • Continental Airlines Flight 3407 crashed into a house in New York late Thursday, February 12, 2009, causing a fire that lasted until that Friday morning (February 13) and killed 50 people.
  • The asteroid 2004 MN4 will make its close encounter on Friday, April 13, 2029. -= 2004 MN4 =-
  • the number 13 was the ill fated Apollo 13 mission to the moon. Apollo 13 was launched on April 11, 1970 or 11/4/70, which when added together equal 13 (4+11+70=85 8+5=13). Although launched from Florida, the time of launch at Mission Control in Houston, TX was 13:13 CST. Failure of the number 2 oxygen tank occurred on April 13th at 02:08:53.555 UTC, which when converted to the Eastern time zone is 9:08:53.555 and equals 13 (9+8+53+555=625 6+2+5=13). Finally it’s estimated that had the explosion happened prior to launch the bill for repairing the damage would have been $13 million.
  • Famous people with unfortunate links to Friday the 13th include Al Capone who was arrested and sentenced to jail on Friday 13th, Tupac Shakur who was killed in Las Vegas on Friday the 13th
  • Last but certainly not least there is the Friday the 13th series of horror movies. Certainly enough to make anyone think twice about spending any night at Crystal Lake let alone on specific nights of the year.

29 years ago, “Friday the 13th” opened on Friday, June 13, 1980. This year the remake of the film was released on 13th February and it was a Friday. Here is a trailer = View

Super 14: Week 5 results

The Blues’ 46-12 win left the Cheetahs rooted to the bottom of the table with five losses in the first five weeks.

The Cheetahs got hit early by the Blues with 10 points in eight minutes and they never recovered despite the game drifting through some ragged patches.

The Brumbies denied the Waratahs a top spot on the Super 14 table in a vital 21-11 victory. Waratahs coach Chris Hickey admitted the Brumbies were too physical for his side.

The Crusaders coughed up an agonising draw to the Western Force that really showed how the seven-time champions are struggeling in 2009. It illustrated that what is wrong is the missing injured stars!

Giteau was the star of the match for me snatching 2 tries for the Force, bringing them level with the crusaders with 10 minutes remaining. after beeing down 15-3 at halve time.

The Highlanders were once again on the wrong end of a tight-scoring match as they went down 14-10 to the Chiefs. With the scores tied 7-7 at halftime, the Highlanders defence weakened in the closing 10 minutes.
The Reds closed out a tense Super 14 encounter, upsetting the previously-unbeaten Sharks 25-13.  The off-colour Sharks were unable to threaten again and were also brought down by poor lineouts and poor handling.  The Reds led 18-6 at halftime and held the advantage until the 64th minute when the Sharks stormed back with a try by Ryan Kankowski.
The Stormers scored eight tries as they romped to a 56-18 victory over the Lions in an all-South African Super 14 clash at Newlands.  After 3 defeats the win lifted them to 7th on the log.  A tough five-week tour is up for the Stormers they desperately needed to put their campaign back on track. The Lions had started brightly and surged into a 12-3 lead after 20 minutes but they quickly fell apart.  It was one-way traffic to the Lions line saw the game erupt into a try scoring feast as the Stormers piled on eight tries in an hour.
Bulls keep top spot with 1 game in hand. Week 6 will be another thrilling Super 14 weekend!

SA U19 vs NZ U19 – season 12

Match Report.

Yesterday, Season 12 kicked off with a home match against New Zealand.
Prior to the match we had a few players with jetlag and thus the choice of who to play was that much more difficult. With 3 spinenrs being in good form, the groundsman at Newlands went out and worked hard to get the pitch dusty to try help them out.

New Zealand won the toss and sent us in to bat.
Bill “whitewolf” Strydom and Dan “Toffee” Wilson opened the batting for us.
Strydom started well with a quick single to get the board ticking. A ball or two was quickly sent to the boundry, showing we are ready for the challange.

Fifth over Wilson missed a inswinging yorker and leg stump was gone and so was he.
Our keeper for the day, Tony “Mullet” Mullen came to the crease but only lasted 1 over before being sent back with to the dressing room.
Seeing wickets falling next to him, Strydom went the next over for 24.

Two new batsman at the crease and all preasure on them with us at 36/3.
Doug “The Giant” Kempen got a quick 11 to help with a few runs to get us to 69/4

Gerry Ledingham and Ray “maddog” Myall to try steady the ship after a dismal start.
With great bowlign from the New Zealand bowlers, our runrate started to slowly drop.
With four batsman down, these two had to get a decent platform for us.
In the 31st over Myall made his debut halve ton and sure was set for his 100.
Ledingham followed soon, but with our runrate at below 4, it was going to be difficult to defend.

Last 10 overs to go, 158/4 and we could still set up a decent total.
In the 45th over we got too eager and lost 4 batsman in 1 over, with New Zealand bowler, Killen, taking a hattrick.
Myall running himself out and our 2 AR’s not putting anything on the board.
Down to 190/8 we were just hoping to get 200 on the bord and defend when we field.

A low target of 206 was set up with a required runrate of 4.12 needed.

New zealand started well, as we did, and a early runout was joyfully accepted by the spectators and team.
They kept the runs keeping ticking over and had wickets in hand.
Phillip ‘Dennis’ Norden struck in the 10th over and took the settling Tsimba.
Fitness was showing on our bowlers and we just did not pitch the ball in the right places and did not keep the runrate down.
On the NT side our lads were looking good agaisnt India (93-3, runrate=4.65, reqrunrate=6.47 (286-4)), and RL, SA just needed to stay in.
Back on topic
Caleb “The Ambassador” Ferreira came back for his second spell and got Shanks just before he made is 50.
Runrate still being a problem and NZ having depth, wickets is what we needed!
Pete Mbata struck two overs later and New Zealand 176/4, we can still pull it off.

Mbata clean bowled Carter-harris, the danger man at that point, 2 shy off his maiden debut century.
With it all being too little too late,we lost the match with 5 overs remaining.

Bad day for SA cricket

Super 14 Week 5

BLUES vs CHEETAHS
The round starts off with an easy prediction in favour of the Blues. The Blues will be looking to bounce back from last week’s Shark bite against the Cheetahs who have never won in New Zealand or Australia since the Super 14 began.  It won’t be a complete rout, but the Blues will rack up the points in the final quarter.

Blues by 19

BRUMBIES vs WARATAHS
Man this is a tough call! The Brumbies were lucky to win a few early games.  The former best Australian team against the current best Australian team.

Waratahs by 1

CRUSADERS vs FORCE
The mighty have fallen. The Saders will scrap for all they’re worth in the forward exchanges.  The Force are actually three places higher on the Super 14 table than the Crusaders who are in the extremely unusual place of being 9th.  They will need to be at full strength as the Crusaders will throw everything at the Force on Saturday. The Crusaders are desperate to get back to winning ways and they will go out this week with a win at all costs. They have moved regular No.10 Colin Slade out to the wing and Stephen Brett takes the No.10 jersey. Kicking goals should not be too much of a problem this week as Leon MacDonald returns. No Richie McCaw though. How they would love Dan Carter and Richie McCaw back right now.  it’s not unthinkable that the Force could beat the Crusaders, it seems more unthinkable that the Crusaders could go four matches in a row without winning.

Crusaders  by 3

HIGHLANDERS vs CHIEFS
This Kiwi derby should bring out the best and worst of both packs.  The Highlanders will be filled with confidence after last week’s record victory over the Crusaders. The Chiefs have ended their usual slow start and have started winning. This usually results in a string of wins and a charge for the play offs.

Chiefs by 10

REDS vs SHARKS
The Sharks were the most impressive last weekend.  They have 14 Springboks in their squad (11 in their starting line-up) and are superior in all facets.  The weather/heat in Brisbane should not be a factor at all as the Sharks have almost identical weather in Durban.

Sharks by 11

STORMERS vs LIONS
The Stormers have won the last seven clashes between these two teams and the return of Schalk Burger cannot be underestimated.  It’ll be ugly but the Stormers will take a win.  The fact that if the Stormers can’t beat the Lions at Newlands, then they will not win on tour!

~No excuses~

Choose three important tasks to complete each day.
Write them down on a slip of paper and keep it visible on your desk. When you have a moment, instead of checking your email, look at the slip, and work on an item. Keep the list to just three, and see how many you can complete.

Turn off your email client.
Shut down Outlook, turn off new email notifications on your BlackBerry, do whatever you have to do to muffle the interruption of email. When you decide to work on one of your important tasks, give yourself an hour at least of uninterrupted time to complete it. If the web is too much of a temptation, disconnect your computer from the Internet for that hour.

Set up a weekly 20-minute meeting with yourself.
Put it on your calendar, and don’t book over it — treat it with the same respect you’d treat a meeting with your boss. If you don’t have an office door or you work in an open area that’s constantly busy, book a conference room for your meeting. Go there to be alone. Bring your project list, to-do list, and calendar, and spend the time reviewing what you finished that past week, and what you want to get done the following week. This is a great time to choose your daily three important tasks.
