Super 14 Week 7

This week has thrown a spanner in the works for my prediction with such difficult games again!
With a few upsets last week, can we expect more this week?

BLUES vs WARATAHS
First off is the Blues vs the Waratahs. Statistics show that the Waratahs will not win the game as they have not won in Auckland in 14 years. Also the Blues have won 9 out of the 13 clashes between these two teams. This fixture is crucial for both teams.

Blues by 3

HIGHLANDERS vs BULLS
This match will be the first Super14 match to played on a neutral venue (bring in bigger crowd). Last week a referee had the last say in making the Bulls play and win with 14 men on the field. They will continue their way of playing to keep their top spot on the table.

Bulls by 10

CRUSADERS vs STORMERS
The Crusaders are slowly getting back into form and with the Stormers first match on tour, this will be an epic clash! The Stormers ran circles around the Lions 2 weeks ago and would like to continue that trend. It promises to be an exciting and tight match, but the Stormers should feel that now is one of the best chances they will ever have to get one over the Crusaders in the Super 14.

Stormers by 5

REDS vs CHIEFS
A battle between the 2 most entertaining teams at the moment. The Reds beating the Sharks, and Chiefs, thumping the Blues, have really showed that they are still in the running for Semi spots.

Chiefs by 7

SHARKS vs BRUMBIES
After a shock loss to the Lions last week the Brumbies will be back with all guns blazing. With a great track record at home the Sharks will be the favorites for the clash.

Sharks by 12

LIONS vs HURRICANES
The Lions shocked the Brumbies last week with a hard fought win. The Lions will be looking at doing the same this week, but, the Hurricanes will want to bag a win before the Lions go on their tour.

Hurricanes by 3

Super 14: Week 6 results

The Bulls started their tour with a 9-14 win over the Hurricanes. Matt Goddard (i will do a post on the ELV’s) gave no fewer than five yellow cards and one red card to put the Bulls down to 14 men after flank Deon Stegmann was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
This win keeps the Bulls at top of the log.

The Sharks moved into second place with a 22-10 win over the Western Force. After last week’s loss to the Reds they bounced back and completed their most successful overseas tour ever. JP Pietersen got his fifth try in six matches to move to the top of the try-scoring standings. The defeat sees the Force slip to 11th place.

The Waratahs suffered a second consecutive loss when the Crusaders beat them 17-13. It is the Crusaders first win in five matches. The win sees the Crusaders jump from 12th to seventh place on the table.

The Chiefs stormed through the Blues with an emphatic 63-34 demolition. The Chiefs are becoming a great contender for a Semi-Final spot.

The Lions defeated the Brumbies 25-17 in a nail-biting clash after a huge loss to the Stormers a week earlier. The Lions thus move up to 13th place from….. 13th place.

The Cheetahs ended their tour with a 32-8 loss against the Highlanders.

Super 14: Week 5 results

The Blues’ 46-12 win left the Cheetahs rooted to the bottom of the table with five losses in the first five weeks.

The Cheetahs got hit early by the Blues with 10 points in eight minutes and they never recovered despite the game drifting through some ragged patches.

The Brumbies denied the Waratahs a top spot on the Super 14 table in a vital 21-11 victory. Waratahs coach Chris Hickey admitted the Brumbies were too physical for his side.

The Crusaders coughed up an agonising draw to the Western Force that really showed how the seven-time champions are struggeling in 2009. It illustrated that what is wrong is the missing injured stars!

Giteau was the star of the match for me snatching 2 tries for the Force, bringing them level with the crusaders with 10 minutes remaining. after beeing down 15-3 at halve time.

The Highlanders were once again on the wrong end of a tight-scoring match as they went down 14-10 to the Chiefs. With the scores tied 7-7 at halftime, the Highlanders defence weakened in the closing 10 minutes.
The Reds closed out a tense Super 14 encounter, upsetting the previously-unbeaten Sharks 25-13.  The off-colour Sharks were unable to threaten again and were also brought down by poor lineouts and poor handling.  The Reds led 18-6 at halftime and held the advantage until the 64th minute when the Sharks stormed back with a try by Ryan Kankowski.
The Stormers scored eight tries as they romped to a 56-18 victory over the Lions in an all-South African Super 14 clash at Newlands.  After 3 defeats the win lifted them to 7th on the log.  A tough five-week tour is up for the Stormers they desperately needed to put their campaign back on track. The Lions had started brightly and surged into a 12-3 lead after 20 minutes but they quickly fell apart.  It was one-way traffic to the Lions line saw the game erupt into a try scoring feast as the Stormers piled on eight tries in an hour.
Bulls keep top spot with 1 game in hand. Week 6 will be another thrilling Super 14 weekend!

Super 14 Week 5

BLUES vs CHEETAHS
The round starts off with an easy prediction in favour of the Blues. The Blues will be looking to bounce back from last week’s Shark bite against the Cheetahs who have never won in New Zealand or Australia since the Super 14 began.  It won’t be a complete rout, but the Blues will rack up the points in the final quarter.

Blues by 19

BRUMBIES vs WARATAHS
Man this is a tough call! The Brumbies were lucky to win a few early games.  The former best Australian team against the current best Australian team.

Waratahs by 1

CRUSADERS vs FORCE
The mighty have fallen. The Saders will scrap for all they’re worth in the forward exchanges.  The Force are actually three places higher on the Super 14 table than the Crusaders who are in the extremely unusual place of being 9th.  They will need to be at full strength as the Crusaders will throw everything at the Force on Saturday. The Crusaders are desperate to get back to winning ways and they will go out this week with a win at all costs. They have moved regular No.10 Colin Slade out to the wing and Stephen Brett takes the No.10 jersey. Kicking goals should not be too much of a problem this week as Leon MacDonald returns. No Richie McCaw though. How they would love Dan Carter and Richie McCaw back right now.  it’s not unthinkable that the Force could beat the Crusaders, it seems more unthinkable that the Crusaders could go four matches in a row without winning.

Crusaders  by 3

HIGHLANDERS vs CHIEFS
This Kiwi derby should bring out the best and worst of both packs.  The Highlanders will be filled with confidence after last week’s record victory over the Crusaders. The Chiefs have ended their usual slow start and have started winning. This usually results in a string of wins and a charge for the play offs.

Chiefs by 10

REDS vs SHARKS
The Sharks were the most impressive last weekend.  They have 14 Springboks in their squad (11 in their starting line-up) and are superior in all facets.  The weather/heat in Brisbane should not be a factor at all as the Sharks have almost identical weather in Durban.

Sharks by 11

STORMERS vs LIONS
The Stormers have won the last seven clashes between these two teams and the return of Schalk Burger cannot be underestimated.  It’ll be ugly but the Stormers will take a win.  The fact that if the Stormers can’t beat the Lions at Newlands, then they will not win on tour!
